We were blessed this year with flawless weather for the annual high tea. Guests were able to meet the new Consul General Edward Hobart and his wife, Susie, as well as Rev. Dr. Paul Burt and his wife, Miriam. The day started off with Young Roge entertaining us with some jazz tunes. Then Cara Rogers performed some of her best jazz ballards. The highlight of the tea, besides the wonderful food from the Radisson Blu and beverages from MMI and A&E, was the auctioneer, Mick Todd. He was brillant at getting the best possible prices for the live auction items and having a really fun time doing it! All of the guests throughly enjoyed his talent at getting them to spend loads of money for a worthy cause while making it all seem so much fun and painless! The British Navy were out in full force by assisting The Angel Appeal with their persuasive skills at encouraging people to participate in the raffle. Who can turn down a Navy man! They became the most photographed people at the high tea. Our Platinum Sponsor was Emirates Airline with two First Class tickets to the UK with hotel stays at the Jumeirah Lowndes and Jumeirah Carlton Tower. MMI was our gold sponsor. Many thanks to all of the sponsors and donors of the many fabulous prizes including: Marsh Marine and Brit Underwriting for a cricket bat signed by the England team, Al Maha, Le Meridien Al Aqah, A&E for the Pimms, Dubai Duty Free, Rmal Hospitality for gifts from Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Trader Vic's, Frankie's, Marco Pierre White Wheeler's of St. James, Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, NTDE, Candella, Sisters, JW Marriott Marquis and many others. Finally, a thanks to Lime Tree Cafe for their delicious give away as guests left with some tasty scones. The best part is that we raised close to AED 200,000 for the Flying Angel. And this would not have been possible without the sponsors and supporters and everyone who attended and enjoyed themselves. Look forward to seeing you all next year!

It all started at a conference in Abu Dhabi October 2011, where two of the riders, both working for the AP Moller - Maersk group met, both with cycling as their passion. “Wouldn’t it be fun to gather all APMM employees in the Middle East who like cycling for an extended weekend, for a Ride of Oman? And then ask sponsors to support with a certain amount per completed kilometer and let the money go to something meaningful”. This ride is the result of those thoughts and with our sponsors (see sponsor page) willingness every drop of sweat will be for a worthy cause. We are so pleased that the sponsors have expressed a delight supporting in our drive to raise money for Flying Angel. The team has also been so fortunate to receive support from: Maersk Oil Qatar A/S, Svitzer (Dubai) and very importantly Raymond’s company Tanuf Natural Mineral Water Company (Oman). By the end of the ride, they had raised close to AED 70,000 for the Flying Angel. A BIG thanks to Bo and his team of riders. Check our their website at http://rideofoman.com/2012/Wellcome.html for full details of the ride.
