The most recent addition to the crew is Renada who serves as our AB Cook. “AB” means able bodied seafarer, and Amancio is responsible for a variety of tasks.  He is on deck to tie up the boat at port and during visits to the bunker barges in the anchorage. He maintains the cleanliness of the Flying Angel and greets visitors when they come on board.

He helps the crew with the delivery of supplies and assists as a bagger in the store. A captain once said that the cook is the most important member of the crew because good food equals good morale and work. Renada passes the test with the best fried chicken in the world.  As with his predecessor, Celso who made fresh baked breads and cakes, the aromas coming from Renada’s kitchen draw visitors into the galley. Renada is from Manilla and began working in the maritime community in 1989. He worked in an oil rig before joining the Flying Angel. He supports his 16 year old daughter in the Philippines.
